It is natural to want better vision. Our eyesight is one of the most important ways we interact with the world.

Not all vision correction options are the same, though. There are also more ways to enhance your eyesight than you might think.

Many people wear glasses. While they are effective, many people don’t like how glasses look on them.

Contact lenses are another option. They solve the style problem by being practically invisible, but they are uncomfortable, require annoying maintenance, and must be replaced constantly.

Now, vision correction surgery is available to permanently enhance your vision. Keep reading to learn about vision correction with the EVO ICL!

What is LASIK?

When most people think of vision correction surgery, they think of LASIK. While LASIK is still the most popular way to repair your eyesight, it is not the only way.

In many cases, it is not even the best option. In order to get LASIK, you will need to qualify as a candidate.

This is to keep you safe and ensure the best possible outcome. If you don’t fit LASIK candidate requirements, there is a good chance you will be able to go for an alternative procedure, such as the EVO ICL.

What is the EVO ICL?

The EVO ICL is the next step in vision correction technology. Imagine a contact lens that you never have to remove, that doesn’t become uncomfortable, and that you never have to replace.

That is the power of the EVO ICL. The EVO ICL is a collamer lens that is implanted directly into your eye in between the iris and your natural lens.

Collamer is a biocompatible material, a mix between polymer and purified collagen. Since it is so similar to the material that already exists in your cornea, it is readily accepted by the body.

The EVO ICL corrects your vision like any other lens but is permanently fixed in place, giving you long-lasting results.

What Happens During the EVO ICL Procedure?

The EVO ICL procedure is fast, virtually painless, and incredibly effective. It takes less than thirty minutes per eye to complete, so you can expect to be in and out of the clinic on the same day.

Prior to scheduling an EVO ICL procedure, you will need to attend a pre-op eye exam. You can schedule one with Focal Point Vision in San Antonio, Texas, today.

During this screening, your eye doctor will closely examine your eyes, run some tests, and determine if the EVO ICL procedure is right for you. Every eye is unique, so the eye doctor has to make sure your eyes will benefit from the EVO ICL.

At the beginning of the procedure, your pupils will be dilated, and your eyes will be numbed. An extremely small opening is then created at the bottom of your cornea.

This opening is where the eye surgeon will insert the collamer lens. While being inserted, the ICL is carefully folded up to fit inside the small incision.

Your eye surgeon then carefully positions the ICL where it needs to be. After this, the procedure is over.

You will still need someone to drive you home as your eyes heal. The EVO ICL procedure has an outstanding rate of success, with over ninety-nine percent of patients claiming they would undergo the procedure again.

What is the Difference Between LASIK and EVO?

LASIK is already reliable, fast healing, and effective. However, the EVO ICL results can be just as impactful for the right patient while healing faster and creating fewer side effects, such as dry eye.

However, one of the most important differences is that the EVO ICL is removable. If, for any reason, you are unhappy with your results, you can simply have the collamer lens removed and revert to your natural vision.

Procedures like LASIK, on the other hand, are irreversible. LASIK involves removing corneal tissue.

Once that tissue is gone, you cannot go back. Since the EVO ICL coexists with the corneal tissue, your eyes are still flexible for future operations.

Finally, the EVO ICL offers good UV protection for your eyes. They will constantly filter out harmful rays from the sun, further protecting your vision.

If I’m Not a Candidate for LASIK, Could I Be a Candidate for EVO?

While the EVO ICL does have distinct benefits over LASIK, the two procedures can provide many people with excellent vision results.

It’s best to talk with your eye doctor before you commit to a vision correction procedure.

If you are not a good candidate for LASIK, the EVO ICL could be a fantastic alternative. It is available for people with thin corneas and patients prone to dry eyes.
