What is LASIK?
Our team at Focal Point Vision in San Antonio, TX has extensive experience with many of the most effective refractive surgery techniques, including bladeless LASIK. LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is the most requested refractive treatment in the eye health industry. Millions of patients all over the world have undergone this procedure and are incredibly happy with their improved vision. LASIK surgery can reduce or completely correct myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism by changing the curvature of the cornea. The best aspects of LASIK are that it is remarkably quick and nearly painless, and it offers lasting outcomes.
Next-Generation LASIK Is Here: iDesign 2.0
Welcome to iDesign LASIK 2.0 at Focal Point Vision. We are proud to be the first practice in San Antonio to introduce this ‘Next-Generation’ LASIK technology.
In our continuing effort to SET THE STANDARD in vision correction in South Texas, eye surgeons Kenneth Maverick, MD and James Lehmann, MD are proud to offer patients the ONLY topography-integrated, wavefront-guided LASIK procedure approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration for the correction of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia.
What does that mean for you?
It now means Focal Point Vision now has the potential to improve your vision beyond the capabilities of either glasses or contacts. In fact, if you’re an ideal candidate, iDesign 2.0 can take your vision BEYOND 2020. And it all starts with a single, ‘Three-Second Scan’ of the entire human optical system. Yes, just 3 seconds.
This is truly one of most significant LASIK breakthroughs ophthalmologists have seen in the past decade. And our new iDESIGN Refractive Studio is truly revolutionizing the manner in which we measure and treat NEARsightedness, FARsightedness and Astigmatism today and in the future.
Each iDesign 2.0 treatment plan begins with a wavefront analysis to measure how light travels inside your eye, detailing thousands of imperfections in a patient’s vision. The corneal topography scans the outside surface of the eye, measuring and analyzing tiny variations in curvature and elevation. The combination of the two measurements delivers a custom LASIK procedure tailored for each eye that was unattainable with previous LASIK platforms.
The iDesign Refractive Studio is also the only available custom LASIK platform indicated for monovision LASIK in presbyopic myopic patients. Monovision is a procedure designed for patients over 40 years old who are experiencing blurry near vision due to aging of their eyes. The first sign of presbyopia is the need for patients to wear reading glasses to see near objects clearly. In the U.S., an estimated 130 million people could potentially benefit from a monovision LASIK procedure, which includes improved distance and near vision.
According to testing by Johnson & Johnson Vision, the majority of patients see 20/16 or better six months after laser vision correction based on clinical studies. Schedule a complimentary iDesign 2.0 LASIK consultation, just fill our form on this page or call our office at 210-614-3600.
LASIK FAQ
Is LASIK eye surgery painful?
No, most patients don’t experience discomfort during a LASIK procedure. Before we begin, your eyes will be completely numbed with anesthetic drops. If a patient feels anything at all, only a slight sense of pressure is typically reported.
How long does it take to get LASIK?
A LASIK procedure at Focal Point Vision is very quick and easy. An average procedure usually only takes about 15 minutes per eye to complete.
Is LASIK surgery safe?
For the majority of patients, LASIK is generally considered safe with a low risk of complications. LASIK is one of the safest elective procedures available, with a high success rate and patient satisfaction rate of up to 98%.
What are the benefits of getting LASIK?
At Focal Point Vision, patients benefit most from LASIK when they are interested in a number of improvements from this procedure, including:
- Nearly immediate improvement in vision quality
- Reduced need for vision assistance, such as contacts and glasses
- Saving money on vision assistance over time
- Quick, easy recovery with no stitches or bandages
How is LASIK Done?
To be a good candidate for LASIK, you must be at least 18 years old and have sufficient corneal thickness. The majority of individuals won’t experience any discomfort during their procedure, and it typically lasts around ten minutes. Before we begin, your eyes will be fully numbed with eye drops to maximize your comfort. We will then use our innovative laser device to create an extremely thin corneal flap and gently fold the flap back to alter the curvature of the underlying corneal tissue. As soon as this is done, we will move the corneal flap to its correct location, and the site will heal on its own. Almost all individuals who receive LASIK will experience clear vision within one day.
Am I A Candidate for LASIK?
Incredible developments in ocular technology are allowing a growing number of individuals to take advantage of laser refractive surgery. If you were told in the past that you weren’t a good candidate for LASIK, set up a consultation at Focal Point Vision to learn if that’s changed. Patients who aren’t suitable for LASIK could be candidates for a different vision correction option, such as PRK. We are pleased to give our San Antonio, TX patients their clearest eyesight.
