Zachary N. Burkhart, MD
Dr. Burkhart is a board-certified ophthalmologist, fellowship-trained in diseases and surgery of the anterior segment of the eye. He is a San Antonio native, graduating with honors from Churchill High School in 1999. Four years later, he received his bachelor degree Summa Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame. He returned to Texas to attend medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas, and then completed his residency at the University of Texas Houston. In his last year of residency, he was voted Chief Resident by the faculty and his fellow residents. Before returning to San Antonio to join Focal Point Vision, he spent an additional year of fellowship training in advanced corneal and refractive surgery at Price Vision Group in Indianapolis.
Dr. Burkhart manages routine and complex medical conditions of the eye, including corneal disease such as dry eye, infection, keratoconus and corneal dystrophy; also glaucoma, uveitis, and retinal conditions including diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Cornea Society.
Dr. Burkhart speaks Spanish fluently and has visited Mexico numerous times on medical mission trips. He is married and has two children.
