LASIK

The New WayTo Correct Your Vision!

LASIK is a vision correction procedure that corrects vision using a special laser to reshape the cornea.

For people with nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism, LASIK can mean the freedom of clear vision without dependence on glasses or contacts.

Why Is LASIK Used?

For years people have had their eyes corrected through a variety of methods. These include glasses, contacts lenses, Photorefractive Keratotomy (PRK), and Astigmatic Keratotomy (AK). These procedures are quite useful but LASIK offers some advantages:

  • It has a faster recovery thanPRK (1-2 days).
  • It has significantly less pain in the first 24-48 hours.
  • It can be used for higher levels of nearsightedness.
  • It corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism
New Procedure To Treat More Complex Vision Correction.

Candidates for LASIK can now have their vision corrected….even if their vision problems were too severe to be corrected by older methods.

LASIK is a technically demanding procedure that requires a highly skilled surgeon. Patients often describe the results as phenomenal. The procedure is almost totally painless and lasts only about 15 minutes.

As soon as the next day, you'll be able to see more clearly. Most patients can resume normal activities, such as driving, without glasses in 24 to 48 hours.

This practice uses latest updates on the Intralase, VISX and Allegretto which are all FDA approved. These procedures were used successfully outside the United States for many years.

The FDA has recently reviewed the procedure.  The FDA reports less than 1% percent of endure major side effects of LASIK such has glare or halos. What is not clear is exactly how many of those suffer lasting severe problems and how many just didn't get quite as clear vision as they had expected.

The most meticulous studies come from the military, which Focal Point Vision keeps abreast.  That research prompted LASIK to be cleared last year both for Navy aviators and NASA astronauts.

"The word from the guys that are out there standing in harm's way, whose lives depend on their ability to see, are asking you to please not take this away," said Lt. Col. Scott Barnes, a cornea specialist at Fort Bragg who described Army troops seeking LASIK after losing their glasses in combat.

The other major finding of the FDA review was "choose your surgeon carefully".  Drs. Snip, Maverick and Lehmann have all completed Corneal and Refractive Surgery Fellowships in the United States and have done thousands of procedures.  We offer other alternatives to Lasik if you are not a candidate.

The FDA inquiry indicated that locally operated centers and specialty trained surgeons like those at Focal Point Vision may be the safer option versus corporate owned volume driven lasik centers.
